Maternal Instincts Massage Staff

Prenatal Massage

This is our most popular treatment and due to our level of qualification is safe for any stage of pregnancy. Using our table which is specifically designed to support your growing “bump”. This table allows you to lie safely and comfortably in any position including on your stomach! Our treatments combine relaxation and remedial techniques to give you relief from many conditions associated with pregnancy including back pain, sciatic pain, carpal tunnel, headaches, leg cramps and swelling.

From my clients:

I highly recommend Ange for Pregnancy massage. She was professional and caring and made me feel so relaxed when I was heavily pregnant for all my pregnancies. I went multiple times as she is so good! ~ Bree

Postnatal Massage

A massage that is safe almost immediately after delivery but most commonly required 2-4 weeks postnatal. This treatment helps to give relief to neck and shoulder tension that develops from feeding (breast or bottle) as well as back pain as a result of delivery or from the extra sitting to feed and the bending associated with newborns. This treatment is fantastic at helping mums gain some much-needed rest and “me time”. However, babies are always welcome at these treatments and feeding/ skin to skin time can definitely be accommodated - especially if mum and bub don’t get a chance for much bonding at home.

Induction Massage

If you're looking to naturally encourage labour from 37 weeks, then this treatment is ideal. It's the perfect combination of remedial massage relaxation, essential oils, castor oil packs and acupressure to stimulate the body's natural progression into labour. While lying on the table your therapist will apply pressure to key pressure points including on your legs, feet and hands to stimulate labour and also calm the body and mind. The essential oils and castor oil packs we use can be effective at stimulating contractions in the uterus. These can also be taken home to continue the effectiveness of your treatments.

Need a little more?

Then why not book a 15-minute add-on to your treatment? We also offer 15-minute add-ons to any treatment. You can choose from a soothing foot scrub, great for dry and/or swollen feet and tired legs or a relieving scalp treatment to help with any sinus congestion or recurring headaches….or both add-ons for a well-deserved full on pampering!

Remedial Massage

Just because you’re not pregnant, doesn’t mean you’re not entitled to a massage! I get asked everyday if we do “non-pregnant massage” And the answer is YES! As these treatments are amazing, you don’t have to stop getting them once the babies have started to grow up. Women’s health is the core focus, however, I can also accommodate partners, brothers, sisters, mums and dads. I’m always hearing how much a husband needs this or how much a mum would love this treatment. Let them know Maternal Instincts Massage does regular massage too!

Endometriosis Massage

Several studies have shown that regular massage gives short-term and long-term relief from the pelvic pain and muscle spasms of endometriosis. A small 2010 study found that severe pain was greatly reduced during and after the massage sessions.1 Used properly, massage can play an important role in pain management and improving overall wellness in women with endometriosis.

Our Endometriosis treatment incorporates the use of aromatherapy oils & castor oil packs with massage that focuses on relieving tension throughout the body, with a particular focus on your abdomen. Why castor oil? This remedy for endometriosis is hundreds of years old and is used in multiple cultures. Castor oil helps the body to flush excess fluids out of the body, which can encourage the release and flushing of endometrial lining outside of the uterus.

What is Endometriosis?

»

Jean Hailes describes endometriosis as "a condition where cells similar to those that line the uterus are found in other parts of the body, mainly in the pelvis and reproductive organs." Women can experience symptoms that include mild to severe pelvic pain, period pain, constipation, bloating, nausea, fatigue and anxiety - and many more.

How massage can help: Massage is widely considered "complementary therapy". A trained therapist will use techniques to help relieve pain and tension throughout the body. There have been several studies that have shown that clients suffering from endometriosis have experienced lesser symptoms when getting specific regular massages. During your treatment we work slowly, aiming to target your central nervous system which can significantly reduce your flight or fight response and restoring your calm and helping you rest.

What else is included in your treatment?: Clients receive a full body massage including an abdominal massage. The massage will target areas where clients feel the most tension, understanding that everyone is different.

A specific blend of lavender, sage and marjoram aromatherapy oil is used during your treatment. This blend was chosen based on a 2012 study where participants reported lesser pain and discomfort when used regularly. If you'd like to continue your treatment at home, this custom blend is available for purchase.

After your gentle abdominal massage, a warmed castor oil pack is placed on your lower abdomen. Castor oil has been known to boost circulation which can aid in alleviating pain and reducing inflammation.

If you choose the 90min Treatment, a Buccal massage will be included. We use the Buccal massage techniques as they have shown to greatly affect your pelvic floor function and decreased pelvic pain – there is an intrinsic link between your jaw and your pelvis as they develop at the same time in your womb. So by releasing muscles in your jaw, we can positively impact your pelvic area as well. The jaw is also known to contain pent-up emotions, as well as harmful hormone accumulation, which can be released through a buccal massage.

Fertility Treatments

We have years of training and experience in fertility and pre-conception to come up with the perfect treatment to combine with and support IVF treatments or to get your body ready for conception. Our goal is to optimise the health of your uterus. We do this by combining the following elements:

  • Abdominal Clearing (gentle abdominal massage)
  • Castor Oil Packs
  • Acupressure for hormonal and reproductive health
  • Massage for stress relief and mental health support

Education is a strong part of these treatments so we will work with you to understand your cycle and teach you at home techniques to help support you on your fertility journey, no matter where you're at.

These treatments are a commitment on our part and yours to your health so can only be purchased in 3 or 6 packs, so we have the ability to truly support you. These are not a one-off treatment to "fix" something but look at your health as a bigger picture. The initial treatment is 75 minutes and includes thorough intake forms and discussion as well as education relevant to your stage. With the time left we will provide some massage and acupressure and educate on castor oil packs and abdominal massage for at home. Follow up treatments will consist of discussion and feedback and a longer time on the table enjoying massage and acupressure.

Chiropractic Support

Many women go through lower back pain and secondary muscle spasm during pregnancy due to structural adaptations and change in load distribution within the pelvic structures. As there will a change in her hormone levels eg progesterone, estrogen and relaxin, this could lead to sciatica, pinched nerve sensation, shoulder and neck discomfort. Direct pressure of the foetus onto the lumbosacral nerve root is also a common cause of pain. Chiropractic prenatal care can help safely address these issues by relieving the pain and discomfort naturally in her back through safe and gentle joint mobilisation and stretches to allow the mother to comfortably go through her pregnancy and daily routine with comfort. Prenatal chiropractic care also ensures the pelvis is in good alignment for an ease during the birthing process.
