Frequently Asked Questions
Didn't find your questions?
If the answers to the frequently asked questions below are not satisfactory to your unique situation feel free to contact me.
Why should I choose Maternal Instincts Massage?
My specialised skills and training in multiple forms of pregnancy massage mean that I can tailor a massage to perfectly suit your needs and preferences. The custom designed pregnancy table also allows you to lie comfortably face down while fully protecting your baby.
Is pregnancy massage safe?
Yes! Prenatal massage at any stage is safe when you’re in qualified hands. On arrival for your first visit you will be asked to fill out a treatment form that will cover the basics of your pregnancy. You will then have a short discussion where you can elaborate on any conditions or considerations that may affect you and your treatment, for example low blood pressure.
If you aren’t sure if massage is appropriate for you, please speak with your OB, midwife or contact me and I can work with you to work out a solution that's right for you.
What should I expect on my first session?
You can read more about your first appointment on our about page.
Where is Maternal Instincts Massage located?
The clinic is located at 217 Belgrave Esplanade Sylvania Waters, within the group of shops next to Doltone House. Car parking is available on the street or in the car park located behind the clinic. Entrance for the carpark is from Ramu Close. Feel free to call if you get lost on the way though.
Can I claim remedial massage on my health fund?
Yes. If your chosen cover has Remedial Massage as an extra. Please bring your health fund card with you to all treatments and we can put it through HICAPS and you will only be required to pay the gap. Alternatively, a receipt can be provided that you can claim at your nearest health fund store, or on their website or app.
Already paid the full amount online? That’s fine. Please bring your health fund card and a credit card to your appointment and the health fund payment can be put directly back on to your credit card.
Can I claim a remedial massage gift voucher on my health fund?
No. Health fund claims are only available for the person receiving the treatment, not for the purchaser. This is the policy of all health funds.

What if I’m unable to attend my appointment?
More than 24 hrs notice: You are able to reschedule or cancel your booking online.
Within 24 hours: your booking appointment fee will not be refunded.
If I book a massage and then go into labour, will I be charged a cancellation fee?
Nope. As the whole focus is on you and your impending arrival, it’s completely understood that this happens. We would love to hear about it with as much notice as possible as there’s often a waitlist and there are others who’d love to take your booking.
Hearing about your baby’s arrival is one of the best parts of this job so it’s always appreciated to hear, especially if it’s accompanied by a picture or two (even if it’s just bubs feet) so your exciting news can be shared in the clinic (not online unless you give us permission).
How can I leave feedback of my experience?
I would love to hear how your experience with Maternal Instincts Massage has been, so I have provided a few ways you can do that. Mums-to-be are always looking for referrals from other people, so your word of mouth really helps us out.
1. You can send me a testimonial online (this can be anonymous if you prefer).
2. Leave a review on Google maps (coming soon).
3. Leave a review on our Facebook page.
Will you be touching my stomach during the pregnancy massage?
No. Although I’m fully qualified to offer abdominal massage, it’s not included as part of the regular treatments. Upon discussion, abdominal massage can be performed during a prenatal treatment. It may help by offering relief for abdominal pain due to bloating, gas or constipation. Abdominal massage can also be performed during a postnatal treatment to encourage the uterus to re-contract, relieve pain or discomfort and stimulate skin elasticity, for a firmer feel. In short, abdominal massage isn’t performed as part of a prenatal or postnatal treatment without prior discussion and consent.
